A grandmother brought her six grandchildren to sleep in two tents under the stars. But for motorcyclists Donovan and Bonnie Wilson of Brantford, Ont., camping in well-appointed white canvas became a necessity. “When you’re on a motorcycle, you just don’t have the room to bring gear,” said Bonnie Wilson, 51. “That’s what’s so good about Contentment Camping. It has everything for you: bed, linens. You have a table and chairs. You’ve got the tent. That’s all the stuff you don’t have to pack on your motorcycle. That gives you more room, so when you come back to Canada, you can bring more clothing.” The camping industry has called it glamping, this 2-year-old trend toward luxury that can transform campgrounds into camp resorts with theme weekends, flat-screen TVs—and furnished tents. Today’s campers can still roast marshmallows, but after singing around the fire pit they also can curl up in a comfortable bed. -Roughing it gets easier with new way to camp- Judging from the increased number of reservations, hauling your own camping equipment is not for everyone. http://rocnow.com/article/our-towns/20104210321 Camping is a gateway to the outdoors. But what if you or your spouse can't stand the idea of sleeping inside musty tents in cramped sleeping bags? What if the thought of packing and unpacking all that gear sounds like all work and no play? You may want to consider a new service available in three New York state parks called ConTENTment Camping. For $60 a night, customers stay in spacious, white safari-style, side-walled tents. Each is furnished with two real beds, fresh linens and pillows, a round table, chairs and cooler. Each site comes with parking, fire pit, grill and picnic table. And if you don't own or don't care to bring other camping accessories like sleeping bags, lanterns, flashlights, camp chairs, a coffee maker — you name it — these items are available to rent as well. So are kayaks and bikes. Glamour camping — nicknamed "glamping" — is catching on around the country. Rochester native Patricia Jensen founded ConTENTment Camping last year, making her service available at Evangola State Park in Erie County and Four Mile Creek and Golden Hill state parks in Niagara County. She has plans to expand into other parks. "I wasn't sure who would be interested, but we're attracting a lot of people visiting their families and cyclists," Jensen said. To make reservations, call (716) 838-3249 or go to www.conTENTmentcamping.com. Once food and shelter needs are taken care of, families can enjoy hiking, fishing, swimming and storytelling around a roaring campfire. There are 8,355 campsites in New York state's award-winning park system, in addition to numerous privately operated campgrounds. One of the best places to camp in the entire country is just a 35-mile drive south of Rochester at Letchworth State Park. Nestled on 14,000 acres along the Genesee River, the picturesque park is nicknamed "The Grand Canyon of the East" — that's because the river flows nearly 600 feet below in many parts of the park, offering breathtaking views. VIP tenting supplied by ConTENTment Camping will be available at the largest Christian Music Festival in the US this summer. Tents in the safari style similar to our NYS Parks tents will be available for rent for the duration of the Creation 2010 on the Agape Farm in Pennsylvania beginning June 30, 2010. http://www.creationfest.com/ne/vip_tent.php Read about ConTENTment Camping in the Buffalo Convention Center's newsletter. http://www.visitbuffaloniagara.com/visitors/stories/whatshot.asp |
